He adds that Apple will most likely move on to Intel’s upcoming Coffee Lake or Cannonlake CPUs in 2017, depending on availability, as well as LPDDR4 RAM. Kuo explains that Apple always prices its MacBooks high, but that it backs down in a few months. Apple however, opted to go for LPDDR3 RAM, which significantly improves battery life, but caps RAM at 16GB. The restriction on the RAM is a result of the architecture that Apple chose for the new Pros.Īpple is currently using Intel’s sixth generation SkyLake architecture, which requires DDR4 RAM (or LPDDR4) for optimal performance. The top-end model is also limited to just 16GB RAM, which might seem like a lot, but may not be enough for pros. Kuo is an analyst for KGI Securities and has a remarkable track record when it comes to predicting Apple’s plans.Īpple’s latest MacBook Pros sell for $1,499 onwards today (Rs 1,29,000 in India).

If the MBP was cheaper, I would've totally went through with it, but now I'm back to waiting for when I'll eventually get a new MBP in the future, at a price I feel is reasonable. The ever-reliable Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that MacBook Pro prices will fall in 2017 and that 32GB RAM will soon be an option.

I'm much more comfortable paying that for that kind of performance as opposed to the MBP, so the PC will do all my heavy lifting I need for my work and I'll keep my MBP around for portability. This is a machine with a quad core 4Ghz i7, a 1070 graphics card, 500 GB SSD, two 2 TB HDDs, and 16 GB of RAM all for around $1700. I ended up canceling the order as soon as I could and decided to build a really powerful PC for the very first time ever. I realized that this new MBP didn't even excite me, that I was paying $3000 to continue using macOS, which is what I care about. The more I kept thinking about it, the more I felt like this was such a terrible value. Im using a 15" 2010 Macbook Pro and I ordered the new MBP the day it was announced. I will have never said goodbye to a laptop when it is in a perfect running state, it is surprising I didn't expect it to be built anywhere near this well.īuyer's remorse was my problem. Now when I end up getting a new rMBP (I need to before the end of uni) this perfect running machine will just be sitting unused which is kind of sad. Just became horrifically slow and/or started overheating. The thing is every other (windows) laptop I've owned has died after a year.

If I get a new one and it has a build issue I'm going to take it back immediately. Basically all the issues with it are my stupidity, but it runs perfectly smooth.

I tried to fix it with WD-40 but it leaked into the screen and stripped away some of the coating on the inside of the display and now it has a horrible line across it. Honestly there has only been one issue with it and that is that the hinge cracks when I move it, which sucks but I'm used to it now. Yeah, I have a 13" lowest-spec (but with 8gig RAM) late 2013 rMBP and it is still perfectly move. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc.
